From the 27th May to the 22nd August, Derby museums are partnering up with Wild in Art to bring a flock of 30 colourful, unique rams to the city. You can pick up a trail map, look online here and download the free ‘Derby Ram Trail’ app to follow the route around Derby. It’s completely free, and showcases rams designed by different well-known or emerging artists.
The myth of the Derby ram dates back to an 18th Century song, which describes the animal as being ten yards high with enormous horns and a huge flowing fleece. The artistic rams on the trail are each 5 foot tall and will be on display outside landmarks of the city, including the new Museum of Making and Derby Cathedral, until the 22nd August.
After this date all 30 rams are being auctioned off, with the funds raised going to Derby Museums’ Endowment Fund.
